Biographical Information[edit]
After being named the MVP of the Canadian-American League in 1940, George Jumonville played in the infield for 17 games for the 1940 and 1941 Philadelphia Phillies and eight years in the minor leagues. He was interim manager of the Mobile Shippers in 1942. His minor league career ran from 1936to 1943. During his last year in the minors he also pitched 26 1/3 innings.
He then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II (BN), never returning to baseball afterwards. He spent many years in the grocery and produce business, retiring from Fruit Distributing/Sysco in 1985. He died in a nursing home at age 79 and is buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile, AL.
