Biographical Information[edit]
George "Deeby" Foss had four games in the majors and also had a minor league career. He made his debut in the majors with the Washington Senators on April 16, 1921, and his last major league game was on August 26th.
He was the regular second baseman for the New Orleans Pelicans in 1923. In 1924 he played for the Fort Worth Panthers at third base, although a broken finger caused him to miss some weeks at the start of the season. The Panthers won 109 games.
A remembrance by a grandchild is that Foss had problems with malaria during his time in the majors, and after baseball worked in a public parks job and as a policeman.
Through 2008, Larry Foss is the only other major leaguer with the last name "Foss".
