Biographical Information[edit]

Geno Spriggs played two seasons in the minors. His father was George Spriggs. Geno was picked in the 31st round of the 1987 amateur draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1987, he hit .281/~.338/.336 as the primary shortstop for the GCL Pirates; his 16 steals were second on the team behind Mark Merchant. In 1988, Geno batted .216/.294/.265 for the Princeton Pirates and stole 13 bases in 15 tries. He fielded .891 at third base, where he moved to make room for top draft pick Austin Manahan at short (Manahan had an even lower fielding percentage). Spriggs died from injuries sustained in a tragic car accident that winter, ending his life at only 20 years of age.

Tracey's Twins in the Chesapeake Independent League played in "Geno's Field", named in memory of Spriggs.
