Biographical Information[edit]
Gene Wellman was head coach of Chabot College and also was long-time athletic director there; he was at Chabot from 1962-1994. Wellman coached baseball at Chabot from 1963-1976, producing a record of 333-135 and Golden Gate Conference championships and Northern California championships in 1968 and 1974-76.
He later scouted for the Houston Astros, signing Anthony Acevedo, Eric Bruntlett and Chad Qualls. His son Brad Wellman played in the majors (after playing at Chabot). He also scouted for the Kansas City Royals.
