Biographical Information[edit]

Gene Locklear, who played five seasons in the majors, had a great year with the San Diego Padres in 1975, posting a batting line of .321/.378/.439 (the league slugged only .369 that year and San Diego only .335).

Locklear is a full-blooded member of the Lumbee tribe of North Carolina. Since his retirement, he has become a well-known commercial artist. His website is Gene Locklear and includes a photo of him in a New York Yankees uniform. The website notes that he also played for the Nippon Ham Fighters in 1978.
