Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman Gene Johnson played in the minor leagues from 1955 to 1962.

He hit 13 home runs in 59 games for the Muskogee Giants as a 17-year-old his first season and followed that with a 20 home run campaign for the Lake Charles Giants. After a down year in 1957 and a season in the Mexican League in 1958, Johnson had 19 home runs and 82 RBI in 123 games for the Eau Claire Braves in 1959. In 1960, Johnson hit .292/.347/.451 with 18 home runs and 67 RBI in 121 games for the Cedar Rapids Braves. Between two teams in 1961, he hit 17 home runs with 67 RBI. He played only four games in 1962 and his career was over.

As a whole, Johnson hit .256 with 91 home runs in 680 games. He later spent decades playing and managing in the Greater Hartford Twilight League.
