Gary Steiner
After playing briefly for the 1953 Oshkosh Giants, Gary Steiner hit .309 with 86 RBI for the 1954 Mayfield Clothiers. He tied for 11th in the KITTY League in runs batted in. He finished his career with Mayfield in '55 with a .270 season with no homers and 30 RBI.
Personal Recollection[edit]
In 1953, Gary Steiner began his first season in pro baseball with the Class D Oshkosh Giants of the Wisconsin State League. I was also on the team as a rookie that year. Gary was an outfielder, as I remember, and of about average height and slender build. He was from Michigan, and joined the team after his H.S. graduation. As I remember, I believe he threw right handed, but I am unsure if he batted left or right. He was probably a contact-type hitter. I am not sure if he continued a pro career after 1953. We were all part of the New York Giants minor league system.
