Biographical Information[edit]

Gary Modrell pitched in the Boston Red Sox minor league system from 1958 to 1964.

His most notable campaign was 1959, when he went 20-8 with a 3.06 ERA in 31 games (28 starts) for the Alpine Cowboys. He tossed a league-leading 241 innings, as well as 25 complete games and two shutouts. He finished 2nd in the league in victories, trailing Don Schwall's 23. He never again had such success, though he went 11-11 with a 3.14 ERA in 175 innings for the York White Roses in 1962. He reached Triple-A for the first and only time in 1964, posting a 3.46 mark in 125 innings. Overall, he went 50-60 in 169 games. He later was a teacher, a California Highway Patrol officer and a correctional officer.
