Biographical Information

Futoshi Miyazato has played in Nippon Pro Baseball and the Japanese national team.

Miyazato was on the Japanese national team in the 1986 Amateur World Series and 1987 Asian Championship. The Taiyo Whales drafted him in the second round of the 1988 NPB draft. He hit .294/.304/.376 in 46 games as a rookie, then improved to .309/.370/.360 in 1990. Miyazato had a career year in 1991, recorded a .291/.338/.395 batting line with 7 homers and 18 steals. He slumped to .254/.306/.341 in 1992, and prospect Toshio Haru took his starting outfield spot. The Okinawa native then was used as a pinch-hitter to versus lefties. His batting line worsened to .201/.293/.223 in 1993, but he bounced back soon, hitting .238/.317/.262 and .261/.307/.275 respectively in the next two years. Miyazato only played 57 games with a .229/.296/.354 batting line in 1996, then announced his retirement after his batting line declined to .214/.298/.250 in 1997.

Overall, Miyazato had hit .268/.325/.335 in 9 seasons in NPB.
