Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Fred Ortman played in the minor leagues from 1924 to 1933. He made his pro debut at 17 years old.

He pitched mostly for the Pacific Coast League's Portland Beavers, though he also twirled for the Western League's Des Moines Demons for most of 1927 and was with the PCL's Oakland Oaks and Hollywood Stars in 1931 and 1932, respectively.

Perhaps his best campaign was 1927, when the 20-year-old went 24-15 in 312 innings between Des Moines (21-11, 258 IP) and Portland (3-4, 54 IP). A few years later, in 1923, he won 15 games for Portland.

Overall, Ortman went 79-95 in 270 games over 10 seasons. He tossed 1,492 innings.
