Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Fred Luciano spent nine seasons in the minor leagues, playing from 1946 to 1953 and in 1955.

He won 73 games from 1948 to 1952, averaging nearly 15 wins per year. In 1948, he was 14-13; in 1949, he was 13-7; in 1950, he was 16-11 with 140 whiffs for the Drummondville Cubs (leading the Provincial League in strikeouts and second in wins, two back of Louis Shapiro) in 1951, he was 16-7 (tying for 4th in the Provincial League in wins) and in 1952, he was 14-11 with a 2.24 ERA.

Overall, he was 103-78 with a 3.61 ERA in 224 games.

He also batted well and was frequently used as a pinch hitter. He managed the St. Jean Canadians for part of the 1955 campaign, replacing Steve Mizerak.

He served as an Air Force Gunner during World War II. He later worked for the Bridgeport, CT Fire Department from 1958-1983 and drove hearses for funeral homes.
