Biographical Information[edit]
Fred Cooke played five games in right field for the 1897 Cleveland Spiders. He batted .294/.400/.412 with three walks and two doubles. That year, he was also player-manager for the Fort Wayne Indians. He had been playing pro ball since age 17. Charlie Babb was a teammate at both Toledo in 1896 and Fort Wayne in 1897. Babb, almost the same age as Cooke, would not break into the majors until 1903.
