  • Bats Right, Throws Right

Dominican native Franklin Torres has pitched in Italy for many years, primarily in Serie A2 with Paternò. He was with the club for three years when they made it to Serie A1. In 2002, he was 5-16 with a 5.38 ERA as a workhorse; the rest of his team was 2-30. He led the league in losses, innings (160 2/3), hits allowed (198), runs allowed (129), earned runs allowed (96) and homers allowed (10). He was third in walks (73) and 8th in strikeouts (123).

Torres was 7-8 with 6 saves and a 4.07 ERA in 2004 when Paternò was a much better 24-30. He was second in saves behind Carlos Richetti, led in games pitched (37), was 4th in innings (132 2/3), was 4th in complete games (6), allowed the most hits (152), allowed the most runs (79), gave up the most earned runs (60), tied for the most walks (65) and tied for 7th in strikeouts (96).

Franklin had a 5-12, 3.59 record in 2005 for a team that was otherwise 6-31. He led the league in losses again, led in complete games (8, double anyone else), led in innings (140 1/3), led in hits allowed (148), was first in walks (67) and was 6th in strikeouts (97).

Torres was 17-1 with a 2.40 ERA in Serie A2 in 2009, earning him a spot on the Italian national team in the 2009 Baseball World Cup, a rarity for a player from A2.
