Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Frank Ujcich tossed a NAIA tournament record 22 2/3 consecutive shutout innings and was named tourney MVP. He was taken by the New York Mets in the 51st round of the 1967 amateur draft and played for their Low-A farm team, the Mankato Mets, that year. In 16 relief appearances, he went 3-1 with a 2.00 ERA.

He worked nine years midnight shifts at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation to put himself through college. He was head coach of Wheeling Central Catholic High School. He later taught at Brooke High School and was on the Brooke County Board of Education.
