Biography[edit]

Frank Meade played catcher at Rutgers University before being drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 24th round of the 2007 amateur draft. Meade has a strong arm behind the plate and hits for power, but has struggled with high strikeout totals. He finished his college career in fifth place on the Rutgers career home run list with 26.

He saw little playing time in 2005, but in 2006, Meade led Rutgers with 14 home runs and finished second in RBI's with 52. He hit .265, drew 34 walks, and struck out 71 times in 196 at bats. He was one home run behind Jeremy Hunt, the Big East Conference leader. Meade hit another 11 home runs in 2007, but his average fell to .242. This was partly due to a slow start to the season.

After signing with the Reds, Meade was assigned to the Billings Mustangs. He had one hit and a walk in his first professional game on June 24, 2007. His first professional home run came less than a month later, July 21st against the Orem Owlz. Meade's college teammate, Todd Frazier, was also drafted by the Reds in 2007.
