Biographical Information[edit]

Frank Bowes was the most frequently utilized backup on the Brooklyn Gladiators in 1890. He appeared in 61 games (with 240 plate appearances), playing every single position except pitcher and second base. He was most frequently at catcher. In 1887, Sporting Life carried a note that he broke his arm while pitching a curve on behalf of the Flushing team.

Bowes was born in Bath, NY, in upstate New York. He died at age 30 after being shot during a quarrel.
