Biographical Information[edit]
Frank Bertaina's best season in the bigs came in 1967, split between the Baltimore Orioles and 2nd gen Washington Senators. In 23 games (19 starts), he pitched 4 complete games (all shutouts) with the Sens while overall crafting a 7-6, 2.99 record and a career best 86 strikeouts in 117 1/3 innings. He fell to 7-13, 4.66 the next year and was out of the big leagues after 1970. Frank also pitched parts of five seasons with the Rochester Red Wings, putting up a 44-20 mark over that time. His best years were 1965, when he led the International League with 188 strikeouts, and 1966, when he was 9-2 with a 2.33 ERA. He is tied for the Red Wings career lead in strikeouts with 501 and is a member of the club's Hall of Fame.
