Biographical Information

Maryland native Frank Bennett spent three years in professional baseball from 1927 to 1929. He made his Major League debut with the Boston Red Sox on September 27, 1927 and pitched his final game on April 11, 1928. During this short time in the big leagues he appeared in five games, pitching 13 1/3 innings, giving up 16 hits and four earned runs for a 2.70 ERA with an 0-1 record. Before playing in Boston, Frank spent the 1927 season with the Portland Eskimos of the New England League, going 14-6, 3.08 as the team's best pitcher, earning his late season call-up to Beantown. Bennett spent the remainder of the 1928 season with the Pittsfield Hillies of the Class A Eastern League. He ended the season with a 4-5 record and a 6.19 ERA, while appearing in eighteen games. Frank finished his pro baseball career in 1929 at the age of 24 with the New Bedford Millmen of the Class B New England League. He appeared in 27 games and built a 11-9 record with a 3.93 ERA. This finished his time in the minors with a 15-14 record while pitching 228 innings in 45 games for a 4.70 ERA.

After baseball, Frank became a pipe fitter for the Pure-Oil Corporation in Marcus Hook, PA. From 1948 to 1958, he worked as a piping superintendent on construction projects for duPont Company and later was associated with Pipe Fitter's Union Local #80. He died from a heart attack on March 18, 1966 at General Hospital in Wilmington, DE and was interred at Graceland Memorial Park in New Castle, DE. He was 61.
