Francisco Aristu was a catcher for the Spanish national team on several occasions. He helped Spain win Bronze at the 1989 European Championship at age 21. In the 1992 Olympics, he was 0 for 2 as the third-string catcher for the host nation. He was Spain's starting backstop in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup and went 4 for 16 with 7 strikeouts and 5 walks, tying for the team lead with Antonio Salazar. He had 9 passed balls in 7 games but threw out 8 of 21 attempted base-stealers.

In the 1993 European Championship, he hit .318/.464/.364. Aristu went just 3 for 20 with a double and 7 walks in the 1995 European Championship. In the 1995 Intercontinental Cup, Francisco went 2 for 9 with two walks and six whiffs. He went 0 for 5 with four strikeouts, two walks, a run, error and passed ball in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup.
