Biographical Information

Floyd "Three Finger" Newkirk pitched one game in the majors, giving up no runs in one inning of work for the New York Yankees on August 21, 1934. Like Mordecai Brown, also called Three Finger, Floyd had lost two of his fingers.

A detailed biography, called "One Day Yankee", can be found here. [1]. Floyd played in the minors during 1930-1938, at one point being part of a trade for Joe DiMaggio, although Joe stayed with the team that had traded him long enough that Floyd played on the same team with him for a while.

He was the brother of Joel Newkirk, who broke into the majors 15 years earlier than Floyd. Joel was born in Indiana while Floyd was born in Illinois. He served in the US Army during World War II, after his baseball career was over.
