Flash in the pan
A flash in the pan is a slang term to describe a player who does very well for a brief period when he first reaches the majors, but never comes close to matching that performance in subsequent years. One of the most famous cases is Bob Hazle, who was a sensation when he hit over .400 after being called up by the 1948 Boston Braves, but never did anything after that.
