Five-State Championship

The Five-State Championship Series was a post-season series played between the champions of the Blue Ridge League and of the Eastern Shore League. The winner got possesion of the Ban Johnson Five-State series pennant. The series was played from 1922 to 1927. The Blue Ridge League started the Tri-State Series with the Middle Atlantic League in 1928, after the Eastern Shore League folded in mid-season. The series was very popular, in spite of matching two teams from two Class-D leagues, the lowest level in organized baseball, and a number of future major leaguers played in the games, including Jimmie Foxx, Paul Richards, Mickey Cochrane and Chick Fullis
