Biographical Information[edit]
Fernando Alejos has played in the Mexican League since 2002. In both 2002 and 2003, he hit 1.000 in limited action for the Leones de Yucatan. In 2004, he hit .227/.273/.330 as a regular for the Langosteros de Cancún; his 20 errors were third-highest among shortstops in Mexico. In 2005, Alejos only batted .152/.233/.303 in 25 games for the Langosteros.
Alejos made major strides in 2006 for the Cafeteros de Cordoba, hitting .304/.364/.439. In 2007, he returned to Yucatan and batted .266/.349/.326 as a semi-regular. He was Mexico's primary second baseman in the 2007 Baseball World Cup; while he fielded only .914 at second, he hit .321/.387/.607 with 8 RBI in 8 games. He was second on the team in slugging. Jayson Nix beat him out for All-Tournament honors at second base.
In 2008, Fernando slipped to .206/.286/.265 in 26 games for Yucatan.
