Centerfielder Felix Mackiewicz played six seasons in the big leagues but almost all of his at-bats were with the 1945 Indians and 1946 Indians. In the other four seasons he had only 55 of his lifetime 672 major league at-bats.

Mackiewicz was the only future major leaguer who was at Purdue University during the period 1935-45. He was at Purdue in 1938-40 and was up in the majors by September 1941.

In 1944 Mackiesicz played outfield and first base for the minor league Baltimore Orioles who won the International League pennant. He hit .295 with 12 home runs and 10 triples.

In 1945 he was a regular on the Indians, hitting .273 on a team that hit .255. The following year he appeared in more games in center field than anyone else, although Pat Seerey is listed as the third outfielder because he had more games overall in various outfield positions. Mackiewicz hit .260 on a team that .245 (Seerey hit .225 but with 26 home runs). Mackiewicz was third on the team with 5 steals, and his percentage of 5-for-6 in stolen bases was much better than the two teammates who stole more bases than him.

Mackiewicz has been inducted into the Purdue Intercollegiate Sports Hall of Fame for his performances at Purdue in both baseball and football. He earned three letters in baseball (and was named MVP of the 1938 Purdue baseball squad), and two letters in football.
