Biographical Information[edit]

Feleipe Franks was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 31st round of the 2019 amateur draft. Coming out of the University of Florida, he was better known - in fact only known - as a football player, being the Gators starting quarterback. He had not played baseball since his high school days, but the Red Sox saw him as an outstanding athlete who could become a good baseball player if professional football did not work out for him. He did sign with the Red Sox, for a $40,000 bonus, and was envisioned as a potential pitcher, as he was known for a very strong arm that could potentially hit 95 mph on the radar gun. The signing did not affect his eligibility to play college football and indeed he returned to play his junior season with Florida in 2019, and after fracturing his ankle in his third game, ending his season, transfered to the University of Arkansas for his senior year in 2020.

He never actually played in the minor leagues, as his only time with the Red Sox in 2019 was spent in extended spring training, given his lack of rencent competitive action. He was not able to play in 2020 because the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic, and in 2021 concentrated on his budding pro football career.

He was not drafted after his senior year but still signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent and made the team as the third-string quarterback in 2021. He saw only limited action that first season, with 3 rushes for 6 yard, and only one pass attempt, which ended up being intercepted.

His brother Jordan Franks has also played in the NFL.
