Biographical Information

Frank Hansford was handed the ball for one game in June, 1898. The Brooklyn Bridegrooms finished the season 54-91 under three managers, and no one in the starting rotation had a winning season, so clearly they were looking for all the help they could get.

Hansford pitched 7 innings with an ERA of 3.86, slightly better than the team ERA.

He had apparently been on the team for a while when Sporting Life complained that Hansford had not yet been tried. Supposedly he had speed, but in his one outing, he didn't get any strikeouts.
