Biographical Information[edit]

Ernie Tyler was the "ball boy" for the Baltimore Orioles. He served the team in this capacity for every game since Opening Day 1960 without a single miss. As of August 6, 2006, Tyler had worked 3,800 consecutive Orioles home games with 32 seasons at Memorial Stadium and every game over 15 seasons at Camden Yards.

In addition to his role delivering baseballs to the umpires between innings, Tyler is the umpire assistant. He rubs the balls with mud and makes sure the umpires room is stocked with necessaries for the men in blue.

Tyler began his career in baseball at the 1958 All Star Game as an usher. He served through 1959 before moving to his current position the following season.

In 2005, Tyler was featured on the ESPN series Timeless.

On July 27, 2007, Tyler's streak ended after the Orioles' second game against the New York Yankees. Tyler missed the two weekend games when he left to watch Cal Ripken, Jr.'s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, ending his streak at 3,769 games.
