In 1911, he led the Kentucky-Illinois-Tennessee League with 10 homers. He split the 1914 season between the Huntington Blue Sox and the Charleston Senators and hit 17 homers to lead the Ohio State League. The next year, he paced the same circuit with 13 round trippers and 36 stolen bases while playing for the Ironton Nailers.

With the Muskogee Reds in 1917, Calbert led the Western Association with 43 homers, 109 RBI, 177 hits, and 101 runs scored while hitting .297 with 32 stolen bases. He also managed the team for part of the year when skipper Henry Wetzel left due to a death in the family. He managed the Hamilton Tigers to the Michigan-Ontario League championship in 1922, while hitting .357 and leading the circuit with 28 homers and 110 RBIs. The following year, he was with the Decatur Commodores and slugged 18 home runs to tie for the Three-I League lead.

He captured 6 HR titles (1911 KITTY League, 1914 and 1915 Ohio State League, 1917 Western Association, 1922 Michigan-Ontario League, and 1923 Three-I League). Calbert also led his league in hits, ribbies, and triples twice, and runs, doubles, steals, and average once each.
