Biographical Information[edit]
Venezuelan Ernesto Pereira joined the Croatian national team in the 2005 European Championship, perhaps their first Latino import (Spain and Italy were European nations with many prior Latino imports). He allowed 9 hits, 2 walks and 9 runs (3 earned) in 5 2/3 IP, taking a loss. Pereira hit .263/.333/.316 in the 2007 European Championship but allowed five runs and eight walks in 6 2/3 IP; he did fan six. In the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers, he dominated against the Israeli national team, with one run on four hits and four walks in a complete game win in which Pereira whiffed 20 batters.
