Biographical Information[edit]

Chico Escárrega pitched one season in the major leagues, as a 32-year-old rookie for the Chicago White Sox in 1982 alongside another veteran of the Mexican League, Salome Barojas. He recorded a save on May 7th against the Detroit Tigers. He came on to get the final two outs by striking out Larry Herndon and getting Lou Whitaker to pop out to third base. He got his only win on July 12th against the Toronto Blue Jays. He relieved Jerry Koosman in the bottom of the 5th inning with the White Sox ahead 6-5 and men on 1st and second. He got Hosken Powell to pop out to catcher and struck out Willie Upshaw. He retired the next 7 batters he faced without giving up a hit and was credited with the win in a 6-5 victory.

Escarrega was elected into the Salon de la Fama in 2002.
