Biographical Information[edit]

After going 5-2 with a 4.39 ERA and 89 strikeouts for North Carolina State University in 2008, pitcher Eric Surkamp was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round of the 2008 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Pat Portugal for $135,000 and began his pro career that summer.

With the San Jose Giants in 2010, he went 4-2 with a 3.11 ERA and was named a California League All-Star.

He spent most of 2011 with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, going 10-4 with a 2.02 ERA before being called up by San Francisco in late August to make a spot start. In his big league debut against the Houston Astros on August 27th, he allowed 1 earned run and struck out 4 over 6 innings.
