Biographical Information[edit]

Eric Silva was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2021 Amateur Draft out of high school. He was a shortstop as well as a pitcher in high school, but the Giants drafted him strictly as a hurler. He signed on July 5 for a $1,497,500 bonus, foregoing a scholarship to UCLA. His career began with the ACL Giants Orange that summer, and he appeared in two games. He moved on to full-season ball with the San Jose Giants of the California League in 2022. In 22 starts, his ERA was a hefty 5.88; he walked 39 men, allowed 11 home runs, and threw 15 wild pitches in 85 2/3 innings. But also struck out 99 and his 8.1 H/9IP ratio wasn't all that alarming. He moved up another level for the 2023 season, beginning the year with the advanced-A Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. In his first 15 starts, his 5.66 ERA was reminiscent of his previous season's total in San Jose. Worse yet, his strike out rate fell to below a strikeout an inning and he was walking men at a greater clip. Still, as of July 3, he was ranked the Giants' #11 prospect.
