Equipment

Equipment refers to any type of gear used for palying baseball. The best known types of equipment are the gloves and caps worn by every player, and the bat and ball but the term also refers to specialized gear such as the catcher's chest protector, the batting helmet, the pitching machine or the batting cage.

Baseball equipment is usually manufactured by specialized sporting goods companies such as Rawlings for gloves and Hillerich & Bradsby for bats. However, many pieces of gear trace their origin to a player or coach who designed the equipment to meet a personal need, from which it later spread to baseball as a whole.
