Biographical Information[edit]

Enzo Lauri won over 100 games pitching for Nettuno.

Lauri debuted in 1961, going 1-4 with a 2.18 ERA. He had a 3-1, 1.60 record in 1962, then did not pitch in 1963. In 1964, he was hammered for 9 runs in 2 1/3 IP. He made big strides in 1965, when the 23-year-old was 8-1 with a 2.45 ERA. He put up nearly identical numbers (8-1, 2.68) in 1966. In 1967, he was 10-3 with a 2.89 ERA despite 52 walks in 115 1/3 IP. He again had seasons of identical won-loss records in 1968 (5-3, 2.19) and 1969 (5-3, 2.44).

Lauri had his top win total in 1970 when he went 17-8 with two saves and a 2.72 ERA; he wasn't even the best Lauri on the Nettuno staff, though, as Alfredo Lauri had a 14-3, 1.15 record. He was four wins behind Serie A leader Giuseppe Silva. Enzo was even sharper in '71: 16-3, 1.39 with a .187/.240/.217 batting line allowed. He was .20 behind ERA king Giacomo Bertoni and two wins behind leader Giovanni Lercker. He appeared for the Italian national team in the 1971 Amateur World Series, giving up 7 hits and 4 run s(2 earned) in 3 2/3 IP.

Enzo was not as good in 1972 (4-3, 2 Sv, 3.86) and returned to double-digit wins one more time, in 1973 (10-4, 3.79). He went 5-2 with a save and a 3.64 ERA in 1974, 4-7 with a 3.43 ERA in 1975, 4-3 with two saves and a 3.68 ERA in 1976. He saw little action his final two seasons, with a 4-1 record in 1977 and 0-2, 5.40 in 1978.

Overall, Lauri had gone 104-50 with a 2.71 ERA in 235 career games in Italy's highest level. Through 2011, he was 16th in career wins, between Bertoni and Giuseppe Buschini, two slots ahead of namesake and teammate Alfredo Lauri. Both he and Alfredo were inducted into the Italian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.
