Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Emmet Sheehan was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 6th round of the 2021 amateur draft, out of Boston College. He made his major league debut for the Dodgers as the starting pitcher against the San Francisco Giants on June 16, 2023. He was excellent, not giving up a hit in six innings on the mound and left with a 4-0 lead. However, his bullpen did not help him, as Brusdar Graterol and Victor González gave up two and three runs respectively over the next two innings, and the Dodgers eventually lost the game, 7-5, in 11 innings. Before making his debut, he had never pitched above AA, although he had just been promoted to AAA. For Dodgers fans, the game was an eerie reminder of Ross Stripling's major league debut on April 8,2016, as he had also been pulled in the midst of pitching a no-hitter, only to see the Dodgers lose the game to the Giants in extra innings. In Stripling's case, he had taken the no-hitter into the 8th, while Sheehan was only at 89 pitches after he had completed the 6th. He could perhaps have gone one more inning, but like Stripling before him, there was no way he could have completed the game. He earned his first win in his second start, on June 23rd against the Houston Astros. He threw 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and was credited with the Dodgers' 3-2 win.
