Biographical Information[edit]

Emil Planeta had a short professional baseball career. He started in pro ball in 1931 with Bridgeport, and came to the majors that same season. Afterwards, he was in the minors with Bridgeport, Des Moines, Wilkes-Barre, Springfield and Hartford. He left the game in 1934.

He suffered an injury while playing for a YMCA basketball team, and that cut short his baseball career. [1]

Emil's first major league appearance was a disaster but his second was pretty decent. In his second game, on Sept. 27, 1931, he pitched against the 1931 Brooklyn Robins for three innings, giving up no hits and no runs, although surrendering three walks. His Giants teammates that day included Bill Terry, Fred Lindstrom and Travis Jackson. Brooklyn that day got 16 total hits, and the majority of their lineup had multiple hits, but Emil gave up none of those hits.
