Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Elvin Stabelfeld played in the minor leagues from 1947 to 1950 and from 1953 to 1954. With the Daytona Beach Islanders in his first season, he went 8-21 with 21 complete games and a 3.56 ERA in 35 games. In 235 innings, he allowed 281 hits and his WHIP was 1.557. He reversed his fortunes in 1948, going 28-8 with 30 complete games, 6 shutouts and a 1.82 ERA in 38 games for Daytona Beach; in 296 innings, he allowed 227 hits and 66 walks, for a 0.990 WHIP. With the Des Moines Bruins in 1949, he was 17-12 with 20 complete games and a 3.57 ERA in 34 games. He was 12-9, 2.85 in 29 games (25 starts) for the Dallas Eagles in 1950, but had a 36.00 ERA in a single inning for the Triple-A Springfield Cubs, bringing his overall season ERA up to 3.01. He served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952, then returned for a couple seasons, with less success.

He threw one no-hitter in his career. On August 17, 1949, while with the Bruins, he held the Pueblo Dodgers hitless, winning 7-0. Exactly one year earlier, on August 17, 1948, while with the Islanders, he held the Gainesville G-Men hitless through 9 innings, but lost the bid in the 10th.
