Biographical Information[edit]
Elmer Rieger is remembered by the Perris Valley Historical & Museum Association as the only Perris, CA ballplayer to make the major leagues. He pitched in 13 games for the 1910 St. Louis Cardinals at age 21, a team managed by Roger Bresnahan and which also featured Miller Huggins.
An elderly Perris resident reporting on local lore stated that Rieger was ambidextrous, pitching one game of a doubleheader right-handed and the other left-handed. This was apparently in a local league. Rieger is said to have pitched for the Los Angeles Morans in 1907 against a team called the Anaheim Oil Wells and Walter Johnson.
As late as the 1920 census, Rieger's profession was still listed as "baseball player".
