Biographical Information

Eddie Zimmerman came out of Manhattan College at a time when it was pretty common for the majors to look for players from that institution. Attending Manhattan College from 1902-06, he first came to the majors in September 1906. Tom O'Hara, who had been at Manhattan at the same time, also came to the majors in September 1906, also with the 1906 Cardinals.

According to The Baseball Rookies Encyclopedia, he has the second lowest batting average of any rookie who had at least 400 at-bats, behind Ben Conroy and ahead of John Gochnauer.

Zimmerman, who was from New Jersey, also played for Newark, and is pictured in the book Baseball in Newark as part of the 1913 championship team. Hy Myers and Al Schacht were part of that team, several of whose members went to the 1914 Robins, which were under the same ownership as Newark. Zimmerman had played for Brooklyn in 1911.

Eddie had a long minor league career - he was still playing at age 40 in 1923. He also managed in the minors for part of 1915.
