Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Eddie Smith of the Chicago White Sox was the winning pitcher in the 1941 All-Star Game. He had ten years in the American League. Although his career ERA is better than average, he often pitched for lousy teams and so he typically had losing records. One year, when the 1940 White Sox finished above .500, he posted a 14-9 record.

Smith was inducted into the Army in November 1943 and was discharged in November 1945.
