Biographical Information[edit]

Eddie Prasch reached AA in 2009.

Prasch hit .475 with 13 homers and 20 steals (in 20 tries) to help his team win the state title as a high school senior. The Pittsburgh Pirates chose him in the 3rd round of the 2004 amateur draft, following Neil Walker in the first round and Brian Bixler in the second. The 82nd overall pick, he was chosen right before Adam Lind and Ian Desmond. Eddie was signed by scout Jack Powell for a $500,000 bonus.

Prasch had a rough pro debut, hitting .220/.301/.305 for the 2004 GCL Pirates. The third baseman was little better in 2005 with the GCL Pirates (.302/.430/.340 in 15 G) and Williamsport Crosscutters (.217/.321/.239 in 26 games), his season OPS being only 21 points higher.

In 2006, Prasch improved his batting line to .241/.303/.341 while playing with the Hickory Crawdads; he struck out 103 times in 369 AB and fielded .892 with 31 errors at the hot corner. Back with Hickory in '07, he hit .236/.327/.385, including just .143 against left-handers. He whiffed 122 times in 348 AB. His defense was much better, though, as he fielded .954 at third.

Prasch moved up to the Lynchburg Hillcats in 2008 and fared well by hitting .271/.362/.362 in a utility role at age 22; he cut his strikeouts to 72 in 365 AB while improving his walk total (to 50). He split the next year between the 2009 Lynchburg Hillcats (.179/.301/.272 in 47 G) and the Altoona Curve (5 for 17, 4 R).
