Biographical Information

The brother of catcher Jack Onslow, first baseman Eddie Onslow made his major league debut with the Detroit Tigers along with his brother in 1912. Both appeared in 36 games with the Tigers that year.

Eddie's major league career was quite spread out. He was in the majors in 1912, 1913, 1918 and 1927, while his brother Jack was in the majors in 1912 and 1917 along with a managerial stint in 1949-1950.

Eddie Onslow is the all-time International League record holder with 17 seasons, 2,109 games and 2,445 hits. He hit .320 in the IL. He had a career minor league average of .327 with 2,712 hits in 2,326 games.

After his playing career, Onslow managed in the minors. He was skipper of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1922, Newark Bears/Providence Grays in 1925, Providence Grays in 1930, the Harrisburg Senators from mid-1931 to 1933, and the Monessen Indians until mid-1934. He also managed the Columbia Senators in 1937, the Hartford Bees in 1938, and the Bradford Bees for part of 1940. In 1951 he was elected to the International League Hall of Fame.

Onslow scouted for the Chicago White Sox (1949) and Philadelphia Athletics (1950-1953).
