Eddie Gold authored/co-authored several baseball books and numerous trivia articles for the Chicago Sun Times. A native of Green Bay, Wis., Mr. Gold moved to Chicago's West Side when he was 2 and attended Harrison High School. He attended his first game on August 9,1939, and saw Bill "Swish" Nicholson homer in his Cub debut.
Eddie Gold was a member of the Society for American Baseball Research and the "Cubs Die Hard Fan Club." Eddie Gold co-authored (with Art Ahrens five titles on Cubs history featuring brief biographies of famous Cub players over the years. Gold joined the Sun-Times in 1951 as a copy boy in the sports department. He had been part of the Chicago Sun Times sports department for more than 45 years and wrote a trivia column until his death in 2002. In 1992, he retired as a sports copy editor, but continued to write his trivia column for the Sun-Times. Gold's popular Christmas poem appeared in the Chicago Sun-Times annually. Gold also served in the Army in Korea just after the war ended. Eddie Gold died of lymphoma at age 70 on Saturday, Dec. 28,2002 in his home.
