Ed Norris
Edward Everett Norris
Biographical Information[edit]
Ed Norris was a replacement umpire in the National League in both 1978 and 1979. On August 25, 1978, he was one of a number of amateur umpires hired by the two major leagues as fill-ins when the regular umpires staged a one-day strike to have their union recognized as an official bargaining unit. Contrary to most of his colleagues, however, he worked two more games that season, one the following day and another two days later, that one rounding out a crew that included three regular umpires.
He was then hired again at the start of the 1979 season when the regulars went on a prolonged strike. He worked 17 games that year. However, none of his 20 career games was as the home plate umpire.
