Ed Mars appeared in the big leagues only from August 12 to October 12, 1890 for the Syracuse Stars of the American Association, but he got in a lot of work in that time, pitching 121 1/3 innings and posting a record of 9-5. He had a decent batting average of .275 on a team that hit .259.
Ed was born, and died, in Chicago, IL. He pitched most of the 1890 season with the Terre Haute, IN team, going 13-13.
One blogger created an All-Space Baseball Team, including Ed Mars along with Wally Moon, Saturnino "Minnie" Minoso, and a variety of players who carried the same last name as astronauts, such as Jack Armstrong. [1]
