Biographical Information

A Chicago, IL native, pitcher Ed Linke reached the majors with the Washington Senators in 1933. He had his best season two years later, when he went 11-7 for the Senators in 1935. That year, he earned a mention in "Ripley's Believe It or Not" as a result of events in a game against the New York Yankees. He was credited with an assist on a triple play after a line drive hit him on the head and bounced back to the catcher, who then doubled a runner off second base, and the second baseman then doubled another runner off first base. Linke was knocked unconscious for 45 minutes. Amazingly, after coming back from the injury, he won his next seven decisions.

After his playing days, Linke became president of the Old-Timers Baseball Association of Chicago.
