Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Ed Atkinson played two games for the Washington Blue Legs of the National Association in 1873. He played with Washington teammate Howard Wall on a Chesapeake team before appearing in the N.A. He was described as "a young man" when he joined the Blue Legs. He played with the Washington Nationals in 1874, a season they were not part of the N.A.

There was a William Atkinson who lived in Washington, DC, at the same time Ed Atkinson was active as a player and who would have been the right age (he was born in 1853), but there is no corroboration that it is the same person as the ballplayer.
