Biographical Information

The son of Earle Brucker, Earle Brucker Jr. served in the Navy during World War II prior to his big league career. His major league debut in 1948 was only 11 years after his father's, a record. Earle Jr. played the same position as his father (catcher), for the same team (the Philadelphia Athletics) in the same decade (the 1940s - Brucker Sr. played from 1937 to 1943). In two big league games, Junior was 1-for-6 with a double.

Brucker Sr. owned some land in El Cajon, California, and built a baseball stadium there in 1955, hoping to interest the Detroit Tigers in putting a farm team there. When that did not happen, it was converted into a football stadium, and a motorcycle race track was put in it. Then it was converted into a race track for cars in 1961, known as the Cajon Speedway. Earle Jr. ran it did for many years, and his sons, Kevin and Steve, ran the facility from the 1980s through to 2005, when it ceased to operate as a race track. See Cajon Speedway Track History.
