Biographical Information[edit]
Earl Pruess drew a walk in his sole major league plate appearance, stole a base, and scored. His lifetime OBP is therefore 1.000.
Pruess had the nickname "Gibby", the only major leaguer to have that nickname without actually having "Gibson" or "Gibbons" as a first, middle or last name.
He is mentioned in a baseball poem included in the book Line Drives: 100 Contemporary Baseball Poems.
One site called him the "Browns' Moonlight Graham" because his time in the big leagues was so brief. He was apparently a top bowler after he left baseball, won a boxing tournament in 1923, and also a town trustee for Itasca, IL. [1]
