Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Dylan Rosa was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 18th round of the 2017 amateur draft, out of Kent State University. He began his professional career that year with one game with the GCL Tigers West, before heading up to the Connecticut Tigers of the New York-Penn League. He hit .213 with 4 homers and 18 RBIs in 43 games at the short-season Class A level.

On March 22, 2018, he was unwittingly involved in a strange incident in a Grapefruit League game, for which he had been called up from the Tigers' minor league camp to give the regulars a rest in the late innings, as teams are wont to do in spring training. In the 9th inning, a pitch from the Philadelphia Phillies' Pedro Beato grazed his jersey, and home plate umpire Tom Hallion decided to toss out Beato, his fourth ejection of the game. When Phillies bench coach Rob Thomson, filling in for manager Gabe Kapler who had been thrown out earlier, came out to point out the absurdity of this decision, when there was obviously no ill intent on Beato's part, he was sent off as well. Hallion's short fuse received national media coverage.
